40 days

In the bible, the number 40 is used a lot, I presume it just means “a long time”. Well, our 40 days is almost up. We expect to receive training today on Luke’s medical equipment, which completes our home study requirements and should give us the green light to go pick up our little guy.

On a somewhat related note (40 days), last night was the candlelight vigil marking the completion of 40 Days for Life, a 40 day period in which pro-life groups across the country unite for 40 days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion. Mikki, Mary, and I all attended, and met a mom, Natalie, and her four children, the youngest of which was adopted from Korea. I guess I didn’t realize the great solitude felt in not knowing anyone else with recent experience in adoption, because when she said her son was adopted from Korea, we launched into a conversation about the benefits of adoption and I left wanting more. Maybe there will be more opportunities for conversation in the future.

“Never does our good God leave us save to hold us better; never does He let go of us save to keep us better; never does He wrestle with us save to give Himself up to us and to bless us.”
–St. Francis De Sales

  1. Dear Matt and Mikki,

We have some friends who recently adopted a precious son from Uganda. Their names are Jamey and Mary Droddy. I think it would be great for you to meet them. Their story can be read on: http://www.filltheemptychair.blogspot.com/ I know they would love to meet and talk with you and they would be a great source of encouragement. Their story is also in this month’s edition of Red River Moms. Praying for all you!
